Hadith ~ On the excellence of fasting the Day of "Ashura" and the ninth of Muharram

Please note that today we are on 06 January 2009 and that is also 09^th Mouharram Hijri year 1430.  The Day of Ashura (the 10th day of Muharram) will be tomorrow 07 January 2009 Inch’ Allah.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, fasted the Day of 'Ashura' and ordered it to be fasted. [Agreed upon]

Abu Qatada reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was asked about fasting the Day of 'Ashura' and said, "It expiates the past year." [Muslim]

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If I remain alive until next year, I will fast the ninth." [Muslim]
